When I first visited Old Sac, I thought I was in the 19th Century—in the Lucky Luke I read as a child, Clint Eastwood, the legendary Gold Rush, the Wells Fargo Stagecoach and messengers on horses. The city was officially founded when the Gold Rush was thriving—which is in 1849*. Its history has not been as romanced as in my cartoons though; fires, floods and drama around gold have once transformed the city in the "worst skid row west of Chicago". Today Old Sac is 53 historic buildings on 28 acres registered as a National and California Historic Landmark where you can enjoy a nice coffee, shop, visit the railroad history museum, dine and stay on the water front.Read More
First and foremost, I really liked the architecture; it was a nicely done mix of old and new. The ancient building was actually a house at one time.
